RJ Mitchell

Robert James Mitchell graduated from Glasgow University on July 7, 1989, with a 2/1 MA Hons in Scottish, British & European Medieval History.

On July 31, he joined Strathclyde Police where over a 12 – year period he undertook a variety of duties including organisation and creation of youth diversionary events, multi – agency partnership creation, sponsorship fundraising and press liaison.

On August 1, 2001, Mitchell left to take up the post of sports editor with the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser.

On January 31, 2004, Mitchell took up a post as a senior sportswriter with the Times & Herald Group producing high class sports reporting across print and digital formats to deadline for a variety of in – house titles like the Glasgow Evening Times, The Herald & Sunday  Herald.

In May 2014, Mitchell left to take up a freelance rugby writer’s position with The Scotsman.

In 2015, Mitchell created his own PR agency Spitfire Media which has produced high quality work for clients operating within the spirits and brewing industry, Central Scotland’s foremost sports club, The Professional Squash Association an internationally acclaimed singer and a renowned Vegan cook and chef from the Middle East. 

RJ Mitchell is also the author of the award nominated DS Thoroughgood crime thriller series, the fifth instalment of which ‘The Blood Acre’, will be released by Matthew James Publishing in September 2019.
